E-Power: più "sfacciati" non si può
AppleInsider ha pubblicato un articolo con una notizia abbastanza sconvolgente. E-Power, una piccola azienda di Santa Clara, una cittadina della California, perdipiù vicina a Cupertino, ha presentato al PC Expo di New York City, un PC all-in-one, che non è altro che la spudorata replica di iMac.
Il PC, denominato E-Power monta un processore a 466MHz Celeron, un CD-ROM 40X Sony, un modem 3Com 56Kbps V. 90 e 64 MB di SDRAM con due porte USB, un hard disk Ultra DMA 6.4GB, uno slot PCI, un floppy drive NEC, una scheda Diamond Multimedia 3D AGP 8MB e un monitor incorporato di 15". Il colore? 5 gusti naturalmente: rubino, topazio, zaffiro, smeraldo e ametista. La fantasia non ha limiti!
Potete immaginare i commenti alla visione di "cotanta" spudoratezza. Nessun problema però per il responsabile dello stand E-Power, il quale motivava la totale tranquillità della sua azienda di fronte ad una possibile azione legale di Apple per la copiatura di una sfilza di brevetti. Il nostro computer ha il floppy, "ma come si fa a fare un computer senza il floppy?..e poi...il nostro mouse non è così rotondo come quello di iMac". PowerLogix al Macworld di New York con importanti sorprese
In un comunicato Robin Sharp, Marketing Coordinator per PowerLogix, azienda leader con Sonnet, Newer Technologies, XLR8 e Vimage, nella produzione di schede di accelerazione, ha annunciato che al prossimo Macworld Expo di New York, PowerLogix esporrà allo Stand 146 e anticipa che ci saranno importanti sorprese nelle schede di aggiornamento a G3. The Apple standard ZIF ("zero insertion force") processor module is used

UMAX J700, and S900. The ZForce is also compatible with the Mach 5

The Z-Force requires a Apple ZIF processor module of any speed, or a
PowerLogix PowerForce G3 ZIF processor module of any speed. The best
features of the PowerForce G3, such as variable bus ratio and variable
bus speed, work even with the Apple modules for the ultimate in
configurability.
The PowerForce G3 ZIF is 100% compatible with all PowerMac G3 desktops
and minitowers, G3 "All-in-one", and Blue & White models and when installed
on Z-Force, works in all the PCI PowerMac machines listed above.

MacCentral ha pubblicato la notizia che la RATOC Systems, una piccola ma conosciuta azienda, ha annunciato di mettere a breve sul mercato un adattatore CardBus, nel formato PC Card, per mettere a disposizione dei PowerBook G3 la tecnologia FireWire. Il prezzo di questo adattatore dovrebbe aggirarsi attorno ai $250. 
MacCentral ha pubblicato la notizia che MetaCreations ha iniziato un programma chiamato KPT X. Il programma KPT X prevede la vendita di plug-in per Photoshop, per effetti speciali, da vendere esclusivamente online, mediante il sito Internet. 
Orange Micro, azienda specializzata nella produzione di schede per computer, sita nella città di DisneyLand, in Anaheim (chi ci è stato si chiede come è possibile fare cose diverse di quelle legate all'attività di intrattenimento), ha allargato la gamma di prodotti con tecnologia IEEE-1394, con l'aggiunta di un HotLink Repeater, un HotLink FireWire PC Card, un HotLink Hub, un HotLink FireWire/SCSI Converter e due cavi maximum lengths FireWire. Ecco qualche dettaglio supplementare:
Ebrahim Zmehrir e Patrick Ulibarri, rispettivamente Presidente e Sales Manager della EZQuest, ci informano di avere stipulato un accordo con Iomega per la commercializzazione dello Zip 250 in versione USB. La EZQuest è una azienda Californiana che nasce nel 1994 dalla ristrutturazione della vecchia PCS e che distribuisce hard disk, fissi e rimovibili, alloggiati in case personalizzati EZQuest con le tecnologie Winchester (Seagate), Winchester Removable (Iomega Jaz, Zip), Optical (Fujitsu), DAT Tape (Sony), CD-ROM (Toshiba) and CD-Recorder Technology (Yamaha, Sony) e nominati con una terminologia ispirata ai rettili, con nomi come Piton, Anaboa, Cobra, Viper, Anaconda eccetera. 
IXMICRO ha annunciato tre nuovi prodotti video. Si tratta di tre schede: ix3D Dual Monitor, ix3D Game Rocket e ix3D TV FM. La scheda IXMICRO ix3D Dual Monitor, con 8MB di effettiva VRAM multi-ported per ottimizzare le prestazioni, offre la esclusiva possibilità di presentare due indipendenti scrivanie con l'uso di due monitor. La scheda, destinata ad impieghi high-end, permette la produzione ad alta risoluzione di produttività con Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXpress e Adobe Illustrator senza sacrificare altri slot garantendo accelerazione 2D con supporto 3D.
